Where the facts come from

Every factual claim on this site links to its source. This is the full list.

How we checked

We only use expert sources: the Met Office, NASA, NOAA, the United Nations and Encyclopaedia Britannica (its written articles, not its AI summaries or question boxes), plus NOAA’s and NASA’s own data files for the charts. Each fact was written in our own words alongside its source. Our build script stores the source text and, for every fact, checks that the key words and figures really appear in it. 133 of 133 checks passed when this site was last built (3 Nov 2026). Where we couldn’t find one of those sources saying it, we left the claim out. Where two sources give different figures (the share of extra heat taken up by the ocean, or how far the sea has risen), we quote both.

The charts and games

The carbon dioxide and temperature charts, and the Data Explorer, plot NOAA’s yearly Mauna Loa averages and NASA’s yearly GISTEMP global figures exactly as published in their data files; our build checks every value against the downloaded files. NASA’s data file gives 2025 as 1.18 °C above the 1951–1980 average, while NASA’s climate page rounds it to 1.19 °C; we show each with its own source. The quiz, sorting, timeline and pairs answers come from the pages below.
